Works Ethics Posting #425
You are a manager of a retail store and will be hiring one individual today for a job in the sales department. You have meetings scheduled with fifteen possible candidates. In thirty-five words or less, answer the following questions:
(1). What will you look for in the area of appearance in the individual that you will hire?
(2). What type of appearance details would stop you from hiring a candidate?
I would hire someone clean cut. Someone that looks clean and decent. I wouldn’t hire anyone with alot of tattooes or peircings because that looks pretty bad to some customers.
I would hire somebody with a great personality and someone who is a people person and would love to work with the public and try to help them out as much as they can. I would look at them to see how they were dressed and if they looked clean or nasty and if they had a good work ethic and look at their resources that they had and call them.
The appearence I look for will be someone who is well dressed and well manored. I would look for these type of people because they will be working around people all day long. I would like for them to leave a positive outlook towards my customers so that they will keep coming back. I wouldn’t hire somebody who is dressed like a hobo simply because appereance does matter when it comes to businesses. If they worked on their appearence I may give them a chance just because I don’t like turning people away.
I would hire someone that has a clean appearence. I would want someone that take time to get ready, nice appeal, good personal hygiene, etc. I would not hire someone that had bad hygiene or that doesn’t care how they look in public.
I would look for someone with an appearance that is acceptable for working in the retail industry. Tattoos and piercing are generally not seen in most retail stores.

I believe that a clean cut appearance is important when working with the public, especially in sales. Anyone who would show up to the interview dressed sloppily or who wasn’t neatly groomed would immediately influence me negatively.
In sales i would look at the qualitiy of there smile and if they have a disarming demeanure. They would neet to be fairly clean cut, with no visible tatoos, and have decent teath. And a healthy attitude. If they were rude, had poor teath, smelled funny, were agressive in the wrong moments, or had a personality that didn’t convey a sense of safty and trust.
I am, looking for a person that shows a highly acceptable appearace with clothes we sell at the store. This is a retail store, so we need are people to sell the product. Im not looking for a person that has no idea, with the clothing line.
I would look for someone who cares about the way they look and present themselves. Although I have nothing against tattoos or piercings, I don’t feel they should be shown in some settings.
Appearance is very important in the work enviroment. I would want the person I hire to be clean, not over powering with perfume or after shave. Neat, clean pressed clothes. No visible tatoo’s or piercings. An energetic personality would be great.
I would be looking for someone with good hygiene,is well dressed, and is clean cut. Some things that would stop me from hiring an individual would be bad hygiene, offensive clothing, excessive piercings, and tatoos.
I would look for someone with a good appearance, and clean cut. I would not hire someone who smelled bad or dressed bad.
I would look for someone who has a good posture and a sense of character and they need to be clean cut. It would depend on what kind of service you are trying to sell as well though. Like if you were hiring someone for a tattoo shop you would want somebody with an edge and tattoos all over them. So you can’t really say what would turn you against somebody because it depends on what your selling. But in this case it would be someone without tatoos and piercings and things of that nature.
(continued) The person would need to speak politely and not be hard to understand.
I would look for a person with well grommed hair, clean clothes, and a over all good apperance. I wouldn’t hire anyone with dirty clothes or bad hygiene.
A potential employee must be clean cut, clean shaven, and be dressed appropriately for the job they are applying for. If I was hiring someone for a postion at McDonald’s, I would not expect them to show up to an interview wearing a suit and tie. Some details that would discourage me from hiring someone for a position would be bad hygeine, poor attitude, and overall sloppiness.
A nice dressed person; experienced in the field of retail sales; personality and spunk. I wouldn’t hire a person if they were late for their inview unless they called. I wouldn’t hire someone who couldn’t understand or undertake what the job details include.
I would want someone who is dressed professionaly for the interview. Clean cut and very nive mannered. Also they would need to know about the products in the store. Things that would keep my from hiring someone would be poor hygiene poor attitude, and a bad report from job history.
I would hire someone who I believe would do the job to the fullest of their abilities. If that person isn’t overly attractive, then that is a sacrifice I will take my chances with. I would prefer the person to look like the professional type, however, I know that isn’t the best way to judge someone. I would never hire someone who appeared to be bored during an interview or spoke harshly or carelessly.
I believe in looking for a candidate to hire I would hire someone how I thought had potential and would get the job done. I also think that in hiring someone its not always based on their facial appearance and with that in mind I would want someone who keeps up their appearance with their dress and cleanliness. In saying all this I believe I would hire the best candidate for the job.
It is really according to what kind of retail store it is. Of course I would want to make sure the person is clean. Clean hair, clean clothes, smell clean, clean teeth. Someone appereance will definetly have an effect on what a customer will buy. If the employee is not clean, then the customer might leave the store just to get away from the smell. I would look for dirty hands, bad breath, just not put together. You don’t have to wear Versaci, you best Walmart brand will do. But you do need to look your best for in interview. If you dont clean up for an interview, then you probably wont clean up for work.
As most of us know, you only get one chance to make a good first impression, though I do make exceptions to that statemnet. Now it really depends on what the retail store is selling, and also on the clients. I would hire someone who looks and dresses in sync with the product. Some who is a little on the edge might be alright for a garage, but completely out of place selling clothes a Saks Fifth Avenue.
Someone who doesnt care about what they the way they look or the way they smell. Just show that they dont they dont care about there job.
I would hire somebody that looked like you could see wearing or involved in the product I was selling. I would not hire somebody that looked like Mr. Rogers to sell exercise equipment.
